Where Do You Run?

This week's focus: Grace

“So Peter and the other disciple went forth, and they were going to the tomb. The two were running together, and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter and came to the tomb first…” John 20:3-4

I love how the other disciple (John) was humble enough to avoid mentioning his own name but competitive enough to tell us he outran Peter to the tomb. Friendly competition is a good thing when the goal is to see who can run to Jesus first!

This world would look different if we all chose to run to Jesus first, but do we? Do we run to Him as our first response, or is He our last resort? Where do we run when we are worried, scared, stressed, etc.?

Where do we run when the predator of worry is about to overtake us?

Where do we run when the past pursues us?

Where do we run when temptation is pounding on our door?

Where do we run when our fear feels stronger than our faith?

In Luke 15, Jesus told the story of a prodigal son who made the foolish decision to walk away from his father and waste his inheritance on temporary pleasures and pursuits. After hitting rock bottom, he finally came to his senses and made the wise decision to return home with a repentant heart.

The Bible illustrates a beautiful picture of how God responds when we choose to return to Him;

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him.” Luke 15:20

Our Heavenly Father loves us so much that He runs to us! May this knowledge motivate, encourage, and remind us to continually run to Him with the same amount of enthusiasm as the other disciple had.

Luke 15:20

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him.

Prayer Points:

Pray: Father, Thank you for the grace, mercy, and compassion You extend to all who seek You. You are a good, good Father.

Think: Running to God should be our first response, not our last resort.
