God of the Details

This week's focus: Trust

But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42 NLT).

The book of Luke shares the account of two sisters, Mary and Martha, and how they responded when Jesus was invited into their home. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, listening to His every word. Martha, on the other hand, was distracted by her prioritized needs and obligations.

While Martha focused on the urgent, Mary chose the important. With tender compassion, Jesus reminded Martha of what the order should be. I don't believe Jesus was telling Martha to neglect her obligations, but simply reminding her to not neglect Him in the process. When we seek Him first and above all else, He will give us everything we need (see Matthew 6:33). When we choose to trust Him with “all these details” His Holy Spirit strengthens and prepares us for what each day brings.

Psalm 37:23 tells us that our steps are directed by the Lord. This shows how intimately acquainted God is with the details of our life. When we choose worship over worry and hang on to His every word; the troubles and pressing needs of life won't overtake us because we know He is sovereign and in control of both our eternity and our moments.

This world gives us plenty of opportunities to be busy, upset, and distracted. It also gives us plenty of opportunities to worship and trust God. Each of us must choose where we direct our focus. Peace is our reward when we trust in God's adequacy and power to handle even the tiniest details in our life, because if you really think about it; everything is small compared to Him!

Psalm‬ ‭37:23‬ NLT

“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives."

Prayer Points:

Pray: Father, thank you that You are sovereign and in control over every detail of my life. Help me to remember the importance of seeking You first and above all else.

Think: When we take our small concerns to Jesus and He answers our prayers, it strengthens our faith by reminding us of how big our God is.

Act: Recently our CEO, Jason Yates, talked with Pastor Allen Jackson from World Outreach Church in Tennessee for a powerful and impactful interview in which Pastor Jackson lays out the condition of the church today and a strong call for Christians to repent and engage. Please, grab a cup of coffee and listen to some rich, impactful truth. Here’s the video. “The only way darkness has encroached is because our light has been so small.”- Pastor Jackson
