Restoration - Weekly Devotional

This week's focus: Restoration

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the verb "restore" as to bring back to or put back something to a former or original state. The promise of restoration, “I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 30:17, New International Version), is a repeated theme throughout the
Bible, offering hope when all else seems to contradict it. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is filled with rich images of healing and restoration—it is a consistent and persistent theme in both the Old and New Testaments. This theme of restoration provides a foundation for correctly understanding sin and suffering, God’s plan for His creation, and His unstoppable quest to save His people and restore them to Himself.

Seeking the Lord is the catalyst for His healing and restoration of our country.

Humility is not something often admired in American culture today. We tend to look to the bold and the brash, the loud and the public, and applaud their ability to make a name for themselves.

But in God’s economy, humility is essential when we’re seeking His face and it is essential to His restoration. Humility is the precursor to repentance. As a nation, we need to humble ourselves and turn away from evil, so that we can truly hear His voice and follow Him. He promises that when we do this, He will hear us and forgive us and restore our nation.

2 Chronicles 7:14-15

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

Prayer Points:

  • Father, give us humility. Turn hearts of stone into hearts of flesh and guide us in Your ways. I pray over our nation, that we would seek You and Your will. Heal our land. Restore our hope. Give us a vision for the future You are calling us to.
  • As voting is underway in places throughout the US, pray for wisdom as voters make decisions from the local all the way to the federal level. If you need a voter guide, ballot guide, and other information, you can visit our Voting Assistance Center to see your ballot, learn about the candidates in your elections, read party platform comparisons, find polling place locations, and see key election dates for your address.

We want to see God honored in America, and we pray for an unprecedented spiritual awakening.
