Lenience - Weekly Devotional

This week's focus: Lenience

Lenience is described as:

  • A mild or merciful disposition
  • A lack of severity in punishing

Lord, today I ask that you visit the hearts of your people in America. Reveal to us, oh God, the ways that we have been unfaithful and disloyal. May we be broken before you as we seek your heart for our nation during this upcoming election, and may we receive your lenient grace as our hearts are stirred to remember that you alone are our Rock and Redeemer.

For further reading, see Deuteronomy 30

Psalm 78:35-38

“They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer. But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues; their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant. Yet he was merciful; he forgave their iniquities and did not destroy them. Time after time he restrained his anger and did not stir up his full wrath.”

Prayer Points:

  • Pray for your state-level secretary of state, a position held in 47 of the 50 states. (The position does not exist in AK, HA and UT.) In MA, PA and VA the office is called the secretary of the commonwealth. The officeholder often serves as the chief election official in their state, administering state elections and maintaining official election results.
  • Today is Columbus Day, a federal holiday that commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the “New World” (on a small island off Florida) on October 12, 1492. From the writings of Columbus himself, he states why he set out on such an unprecedented journey: “[O]ur Lord opened to my understanding (I could sense His hand upon me) so it became clear to me that it [the voyage] was feasible...All those who heard about my enterprise rejected it with laughter, scoffing at me...Who doubts that this illumination was from the Holy Spirit? I attest that He [the Holy Spirit], with marvelous rays of light, consoled me through the holy and sacred Scriptures...they inflame me with a sense of great urgency... No one should be afraid to take on any enterprise in the name of our Savior if it is right and if the purpose is purely for His holy service...And I say that the sign which convinces me that our Lord is hastening the end of the world is the preaching of the Gospel recently in so many lands.”

We want to see God honored in America, and we pray for an unprecedented spiritual awakening.
