Human Rights and Individual Freedoms
This week's focus: Liberty and Freedom/Government
One of the “seven spheres of influence” involves government and politics. People around the world are willing to lay down their lives for the freedoms expressed in the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” Pray that we, as Americans, do not forget that freedoms and liberties we experience are gifts from God that can be lost if we turn our backs on Him. Pray that God will intervene in America’s national and local governments in ways that promote individual freedoms. Pray that more devoted, righteous people will seek and be elected to public office, thus helping provide a more compass for their communities and our nation, for where there is no vision, the people will perish (Proverbs 28:18).
Romans 8:19-21
For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
Prayer Points:
- Holy Week began yesterday with Palm Sunday. Pray that as we approach Easter Sunday, the day we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ, that more would come to know God’s love for the world through the sacrifice of His son. For those of us who do know Him, let us take time to thank Him for His willingness to die for our sins and rejoice that He is Risen!
- Today is Tax Day. Pray that we would fulfill our civic duties while still generously giving our time, talents and treasures to His work. Pray that God’s hand guides the hearts and minds of those who decide where the money goes and help us all to be good stewards of all that we have and all that we are.
We want to see God honored in America, and we pray for an unprecedented spiritual awakening.
