Forbearance - Weekly Devotional
This week's focus: Forbearance
Forbearance is defined as:
- the quality of someone who is patient and able to deal with a difficult person or situation without becoming angry
- a refraining from the enforcement of something (as a debt, right, or obligation) that is due
Father God, today I stand before you “in the breach,” asking for your forbearance in America during this acrimonious time in politics. At this moment, we need your patience. We are ever grateful that you deal with us, even when we are difficult. I pray that you would give us, your people in America, your heart of forbearance as we participate in politics and in the public square this year and every year.

Psalm 106: 21-23 (NIV)
They forgot the God who saved them,
who had done great things in Egypt,
miracles in the land of Ham
and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
So he said he would destroy them—
had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach before him
to keep his wrath from destroying them.
Prayer Points:
- Pray against dangerous legislation called the “Equality Act” that passed in the House on Thursday and is now being sent to the Senate. While our nation was founded upon the idea of equality, the truth that all of us are created equal, the Equality Act in many ways does the opposite and needs to be opposed. Its proponents insist that the Equality Act is about “ending discrimination,” but it would in fact fundamentally alter the legal definition of sex to include sexual orientation and gender identity. The legislation would also undermine the Religious Freedom Restoration Act by conferring special status on gay rights, prioritizing them over religious freedom and conscience rights. The legislation is a true threat to religious liberty as well as women’s rights. Pray that this legislation is stopped then take action and send a message to your Senators, urging them to vote “no” with our easy-to-use-tool here.
We want to see God honored in America, and we pray for an unprecedented spiritual awakening.
