Exhort - Weekly Devotional

This week's focus: Exhort

Exhort is defined as:

  • strongly encourage or urge (someone) to do something
  • to incite, the ardent urging

Lord, you exhort your people, your church to pray. You tell us to pray for everyone since the Gospel is for all. Our nation needs Your guidance and direction. We humbly ask that Your Spirit intercede with the leaders of this nation, giving them the wisdom to make decisions that will honor You. We specifically pray for our leaders because they are instruments of good to mankind, they most need our prayers as they encounter more difficulties, are exposed to more dangers, and are more liable to greater temptations as they are in leadership positions. We pray fervently for peace both here and abroad. Let us live with reverence for You and with peace in our hearts for our fellow man. We know this is Your desire. May we always remember that You alone are our God and Savior.

1 Timothy 2:1-6 (KJV)

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Prayer Points:

  • Take time today to pray for your elected officials and then tell them you’ve prayed for them right here.
  • Pray for the Supreme Court as they finish their current term this month and make decisions on the remaining important cases. In light of their 6-3 decision last week to redefine “sex” in federal law to mean “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” pray for Christians and church leaders across the country to hold firm to the immovable, never-changing Word of God. Pray that we would not be swayed by culture, but instead would be transformed every day more into the likeness of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We want to see God honored in America, and we pray for an unprecedented spiritual awakening.
