Compassion - Weekly Devotional

This week's focus: Compassion

Compassion is defined as:

  • sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress with a desire for it to be alleviated

Jesus, I pray that in every election season, you would open my eyes in compassion to those who are weary and scattered, to the lost who are like sheep without a shepherd. May my vote be a compassionate vote—a vote of concern for those who need your healing. May the voice of your people in America today be one of compassion in response to the great needs facing our country at this time and may the leaders we elect be compassionate as well.

Matthew 9:35-36

"And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd."

Prayer Points:

  • Pray for your local city council members as they lead your city. Pray for wisdom to govern, a sense of compassion for the needs of the people they serve, a thirst for justice and righteousness and the ability to work together in harmony.
  • Pray for Congress as they approach the end of the federal government’s fiscal year on September 30. Pray for their energy, clarity and wisdom as they wrap up items to meet the deadline. Pray that they would seek to be good stewards of the American people’s money.

We want to see God honored in America, and we pray for an unprecedented spiritual awakening.
This devotion was produced in partnership with Every Home for Christ.
This ministry is made possible by the generous support of friends like you.
