WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - SEPTEMBER 10, 2025
In this week's Intersect, read about:
Parents Can’t Opt Out of LGBTQ Curriculum in Seattle
Seattle Public Schools now prohibits parents from opting their children out of LGBTQ-focused curriculum. According to the district, “There is no option to ‘opt students out’ of learning about particular identities or groups of people.” The policy extends across all grades and covers materials like pronoun use, Pride Month references, LGBTQ-inclusive literature, and bullying prevention discussions, all without prior parental notice.” Read more at Million Voices…
THINK.
- Parents are stewards of their children’s moral education; removing opt-outs undermines their biblical role (Proverbs 22:6). Parents must be more active in their child’s education for there to be any meaningful reform. Children cannot go to school and come home after no accountability for the school and educators.
- Mahmoud v. Taylor, along with other Court decisions, have held that parents are constitutionally permitted to remove their children from curriculum they deem objectionable. The way to enforce the law is to challenge the school and the school district.
- Government overreach in schools threatens family authority; Christians need to advocate for transparency and parental control. Christians must demand policies that reflects God’s law in the schools.
PRAY.
God, forgive us for allowing the sexual perversion to infect our public school system. We pray that You invade the schools and their school boards with the Holy Spirit and may Your love transform all the students and faculty.
ACT.
Contact your local school board to express concern and request opt-out rights for sensitive content; encourage your community to attend school board meetings and stay informed about curriculum changes.
Planned Parenthood Shuts Down in Louisiana After Four Decades
“The final two Planned Parenthood clinics in Louisiana will close on September 30 after over 40 years of operation. The closures follow federal policy changes such as enforcing the Hyde Amendment and Title X restrictions. Pro-life advocates celebrate the move as a victory for life and effective advocacy.” Read more at Million Voices…
THINK.
- Each human life is sacred and deserving of protection. This closure shows that determined prayer and advocacy yield results.
- Governments must prioritize protecting the innocent; policies like Hyde secure that principle. The 14th Amendment recognizes the value of the unborn lives, however, it is not interpreted that way by the Supreme Court. The closures of Planned Parenthood are a step in the right direction.
- Faith-based social support must rise to serve mothers in need, reflecting Jesus’ call to care for the vulnerable (James 1:27). We must support pregnancy centers whose main objective it is to encourage mothers to keep their babies, and second, to encourage adoptions.
PRAY.
God, we give you praise for this wonderful victory. We thank you, Jesus, for giving us leaders that are bold enough to address this issue and steward our money in a way that defeats evil plans and advances good plans for our states and our nation.
ACT.
Support or volunteer with local pregnancy resource centers or adoption ministries to offer real-life solutions for women choosing life in your area.
Florida Moves to End Vaccine Mandates
“Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced the end of all vaccine mandates in the state, not only COVID-19, but every vaccine requirement. Emphasizing individual liberty, Ladapo questioned, “Who am I to tell you what your child should put in their body?” State leaders are aligning with the MAHA (“Make America Healthy Again”) movement to shift health decisions back to individuals.” Read more at Million Voices…
THINK.
- Choices around our bodies should be made with conscience and informed consent, a God-given freedom.
- Christians are called to honor bodily autonomy within God’s design, balancing wisdom with liberty. We dishonor God, by allowing our civil government to wield political power in a way that prevents us from making good choices for our bodies.
- Civil authority should respect individual rights; skeptics of mandates echo biblical caution against forced submission. We saw this during COVID when Americans were forced to wear masks that did not work and inject the untested vaccine into their bodies. If people lose trust in their government, society begins to crumble.
PRAY.
Lord, we thank you for health and stewardship of our bodies. We ask that our national and state leaders have the wisdom to pass laws that address biblical health of the body and encourage people to make good decisions.
ACT.
Encourage your state lawmakers to uphold medical freedom and support transparency around vaccine exemptions; amplify public education supporting voluntary health decisions.
California Bill Sparks Fears of Legalized Kidnapping
“California’s proposed AB 495 expands caregiver authority to include distant relatives and non-relatives with vague “mentoring” or “familial” links, and undefined criteria like “unable to contact.” Critics say this could allow someone to claim guardianship of children without proper verification, raising serious concerns about potential exploitation.” Read more at Million Voices…
THINK.
- Parental responsibility is sanctified in Scripture; laws must never subvert that sacred duty (Ephesians 6:4).
- Legal ambiguity in child custody undermines family safety; clarity is essential for justice. The church has allowed laws to be passed with “good intention” or “unintended consequences,” all while those consequences have destroyed our states and our nation. We must be vigilant in making sure our laws recognize parental authority.
PRAY.
Father, I pray that children are protected from evil people. May California come to its senses and defeat this law, saving children from falling into the wrong hands. We ask for Your divine protection and guidance over the children and those fighting against this awful legislation.
ACT.
Contact your state legislators, urging them to oppose AB 495 or demand amendments ensuring parental verification and safeguards against misuse; share trustworthy information with your church community.
