WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - OCTOBER 29, 2025
In this week's Intersect, read about:
School Board Defies North Carolina’s Parental Rights Law
“In January 2024, the Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt a local policy that directly conflicts with North Carolina’s new Parents’ Bill of Rights. The law, known as Senate Bill 49, had passed the legislature months earlier after lawmakers overrode Governor Roy Cooper’s veto. It was intended to expand transparency and parental involvement in education, but CHCCS made clear it would not comply.” Read more at Million Voices.” Read more at Million Voices…
THINK.
- Defying a duly enacted state law undermines the rule of law and public trust in school governance. The school board also happens to be the only one in the state resisting the new law, which is great news.
- Parents’ rights provisions, especially notification and K–4 instruction limits, exist to ensure transparency on sensitive issues. America has gone down this path of disallowing parents to be involved in their child’s education, which is very dangerous. The church must step up and defend the kids in the community.
- Local autonomy has limits; when boards treat compliance as optional, it blurs authority between districts and the legislature. Local control is important for many voters, but when localities come against good, common sense laws, Romans 13 applies always: government exists to punish evil and to do good. In this case, it should be punishing the school board for resisting a good law.
PRAY.
Jesus, protect the children from bad actors in government. Give wisdom to those who desire to seek You and follow Your moral law. Embolden the parents to take a stand for Your word in their schools, and empower them to get more involved. Would you raise up a new coalition of civil leaders that can restore righteousness in government?
ACT.
Take an active role in ensuring transparency and accountability in your local schools by reaching out to your school board to request clear written policies on parental notification and K–4 instruction. Attend upcoming board meetings to voice your support for compliance with state law, and share this information with your community to help others stay informed and engaged in monitoring local education decisions.
Terrorist Associations Rock NYC Mayor’s Race
“When we think of the worst terrorist attacks in U.S. history, most notably the catastrophic destruction of the September 11 attacks, it’s hard not to feel a deep sense of caution about who we allow to lead our cities. And now in New York City, voters are being asked to choose the next mayor at a time when one candidate’s associations raise questions about judgment, loyalties, and his understanding of what’s at stake.” Read more at Million Voices…
THINK.
- True leadership is measured not only by policy positions but by the company one keeps and the moral convictions guiding their choices. It is a really bad look for Mamdani to take photos with terrorist sympathizers.
- In a city still healing from past acts of terror, even small lapses in discernment carry enormous consequences for public trust and safety. Concerns over what Mamdani will or will not do to the city, especially in the event of a disaster or attack are very much grounded in reality.
- Mamdani’s rise to prominence highlights the growing and deep-rooted concern about immigration in America and our way of life; our customs, traditions, and values being transformed & completely changed.
PRAY.
Jesus, give us wisdom. Teach us to steward our public affairs well, and expose those who need to be known so we can elect good men and women to office who share Your values, Lord. Give us courageous leaders who will boldly step in the gap and defend our communities through civil law.
ACT.
Research the backgrounds of local and national candidates. Share a short briefing with your community about why associations and character matter in leadership. Encourage others to vote thoughtfully, not just on policy but on character.
Louisiana Pastor Fired After Refusing to Use False Pronouns
“When Luke Ash, a bi-vocational pastor from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, refused to use a colleague’s preferred pronouns, he wasn’t trying to make headlines, he was simply trying to remain faithful to God’s Word. Yet his decision cost him his job. Ash served both as a pastor at Stevendale Baptist Church and as a library technician for the East Baton Rouge Parish Library until his termination in July 2025.” Read more at Million Voices…
THINK.
- Upholding biblical truth in today’s workplaces often brings real cost, as cultural pressures demand conformity over conviction. It is our duty as Christians to obey the simple commandment which is to not lie. Referring to someone by their preferred pronouns is to affirm lying.
- The Church must respond with courage, encouraging believers to live out their faith boldly, even in professional settings. We must actively preach truth to those who desperately need it.
- While we do have President Trump on the side of reason and common sense, there are far too many at the local levels who do not carry that same heart. Christians must boldly stand firm on truth, and actively take these positions from those who are not stewarding them with excellence. Like Pastor Ash, it's time for the congregations to stand up and fill those positions.
PRAY.
Lord, give Your Church the boldness to stand in the gap. Give us courage to fill positions that make us uncomfortable. Stir our hearts for action to proclaim Your goodness to the world. May Your love and mercy be the characteristics that draw people to righteousness.
ACT.
If you know someone navigating faith and work tensions, reach out and offer support. Consider partnering with or supporting organizations that stand for religious freedom in employment. Educate yourself on local protections and encourage advocacy.
Predator Protections Emerge in Wisconsin Schools
“Recent reporting by The Federalist has revealed something deeply troubling about the state of Wisconsin’s public school system. Between 2018 and 2023, more than 460 educators were investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for misconduct. Shockingly, over 200 of them kept their licenses and continued working with children. This pattern, highlighted by state and local investigations, shows how deeply broken the system of accountability has become.” Read more at Million Voices…
THINK.
- When schools protect predators instead of children, they betray the trust parents place in them and erode moral authority. This is particularly concerning because these circumstances continue to be more prevalent as time goes on. We are seeing more news each day, exposing predator teachers and school officials. This must end.
- Justice and virtue are the foundation of a healthy society, and institutions must be held accountable to those standards. Certainly our schools, which serve some of the most vulnerable minds in society, ought to be well-maintained regarding education and those who steward that responsibility. This is a real problem across America; parents should be throwing their names in the hat for school board positions.
- Christians have a sacred duty to speak for the defenseless and insist on transparency wherever corruption hides. If you are not running for office, you can certainly testify before the school board on this issue (if you live in Wisconsin) or any other issues in your community that concern you.
PRAY.
Jesus, touch every heart & mind that is concern about these issues in the schools. Strengthen the Church to stand for Your holy word and break our hearts for what breaks Yours. Blessed our work as we dedicate it all to You. May Your Holy Spirit go before us and guide us each step of the way.
ACT.
Ask your local school board for their policy on teacher misconduct and transfers. Encourage legislation that requires public reporting of accusations and clear disciplinary outcomes. Support parent advocacy groups for school accountability.
