WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - MAY 6, 2026

In this week's Intersect, read about:

Political Violence in Focus After WHCD Shooting

"Our nation faced a shocking event on April 25th when gunfire erupted in Washington, D.C. A terrifying White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting took place at the Washington Hilton. President Trump and other high-ranking leaders were quickly evacuated." Read more at Million Voices...

THINK.

  • This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of the brokenness in our world and the urgent need for spiritual healing. In moments like these, we are called to seek unity and strength through faith, turning to God for guidance, comfort, and protection. Such violence reflects deeper issues of division and turmoil that only a renewal of the heart and spirit can mend. It is a solemn yet powerful call for us as a nation to collectively pray for peace, for the restoration of love and compassion among all people, and for the kind of hope that only divine intervention can truly provide.
  • It is imperative for leaders across the spectrum to rise above partisan conflicts and work toward policies that foster unity, equality, and justice for all. This moment demands urgent action, accountability, and a collective commitment to creating a society where every individual feels valued, respected, and safe.
  • Americans have no choice but to turn to faith that can move mountains, heal divisions, and inspire humanity to rise above fear and violence. Faith in Jesus calls us to trust in Him, to believe in the potential for transformation, and to act as vessels of light in a world often clouded by darkness.

PRAY.

Holy Spirit, may Your spirit spread across our nation. Give our nation peace, instill joy. We need Your love again. Teach us how to steward this era in our nation's history, so that we learn to pursue peace and unity.

ACT.

This problem is far deeper than a political problem. It is spiritually rooted. This demands both prayer and relationships. People are confused, and they need a relationship with their neighbor. Consider reaching out to people that may have been on your heart in the past, but you were too nervous to talk with them. Reach out and love them as Jesus does.

Trump’s Fight to End the Orphan Tax Nationwide

"When children lose their parents, they face unimaginable heartbreak and uncertainty. In many cases, these vulnerable children enter the foster care system looking for safety and support. Unfortunately, many states have been quietly taking the financial resources left behind by their deceased parents." Read more at Million Voices...

THINK.

  • This issue exposes a glaring injustice within our political system that demands immediate attention. The "orphan tax" is not just a financial burden; it is a betrayal of our nation’s commitment to protect the most vulnerable among us. Lawmakers must urgently unite, transcending partisan differences, to abolish this practice and ensure that these children receive the full resources intended to secure their future. This is not a matter of debate; it is a moral obligation to restore dignity and fairness to those who need it most.
  • We cannot ignore the profound spiritual call to care for the orphaned and vulnerable, as it resonates through the moral teachings of countless traditions. To neglect these children violates a sacred responsibility to uplift the least among us, those who embody the purity, hope, and promise of humanity. Abolishing the "orphan tax" is not just an act of justice but a testament to our shared humanity and divine duty to protect and nurture those who cannot advocate for themselves.
  • Across cultures and civilizations, the care of orphaned and vulnerable children has been a profound marker of humanity’s moral fiber. From ancient codes of conduct to modern-day values, societies have long emphasized the importance of sheltering and uplifting those without families, be it through community-based support in tribal customs, religious mandates to aid the fatherless, or the enduring stories of courage and compassion passed down through generations. Ignoring this legacy undermines the very ideals that bind us as a global community.

PRAY.

Lord, we come before You with hearts full of compassion and a deep yearning to see every vulnerable child embraced with love and care. Grant us the courage to act boldly, the wisdom to uplift, and the strength to persist in offering hope where there is despair. May our hands be Your hands, reaching out to those in need, and may we never waver in our commitment to reflect Your boundless grace and mercy. Amen.

ACT.

Join us in making a difference today by supporting organizations dedicated to protecting vulnerable children. Whether through donating, volunteering your time, or raising awareness in your community, your actions can bring hope and change to those who need it most.

Supreme Court Ruling Challenges Race-Based Redistricting Nationwide

"The recent Supreme Court ruling on the Louisiana congressional map has created a massive shift in American election law. Justices delivered a major decision that impacts how states can draw their voting districts. This ruling specifically addresses the balance between race and map creation ahead of the 2026 midterms." Read more at Million Voices...

THINK.

  • After decades of gerrymandered congressional districts, the Supreme Court has ruled that states cannot draw their districts based on race. This may have profound effects for generations to come. This decision could flip dozens of democrat seats to republican.
  • This ruling underscores the importance of having justices on the bench who understand natural law and true justice. Originalism is a crucial jurisprudence that must be the only method of constitutional interpretation. Originalism is the most just method and delivers results like this.
  • If these seats do flip, candidates who are God-fearing must step up and become bold about fighting this spiritual battle that is so often called a political fight. It is crucial Chrsitian take a stand and take advantage of this moment.

PRAY.

God, give us wisdom as these districts begin to redraw their congressional lines. May states not push back, but follow the law. And will You empower and stir hearts to run for these new seats; men and women who fear and honor You, Jesus.

ACT.

Pray about running for any seats that open up! The Church needs to empower candidates, and who knows, you may have been assigned in this season, for such a time as this.

UW Transgender Policies Complaint

"A prominent civil rights complaint has been filed against the University of Washington. The legal challenge focuses on the school’s current transgender policies regarding bathroom access. Defending Education, a civil rights organization, officially submitted the document to federal authorities." Read more at Million Voices...

THINK.

  • Decency must return to all places in society. There is no reason for allowing men who think they are women to enter the private spaces of the ladies' room. When nations follow these kinds of policies, historically, they do not survive the fall.
  • There are no constitutional protections for policies such as these. The only statute that comes even close is the Civil Rights Act of 1965, and that has its limitations, as we have seen in the past 5 years, thanks to logical, reasonable Supreme Court justices. The Founding Fathers would never have tolerated any policy that denies biological reality.
  • Policies protecting the transgender "community" are becoming increasingly unpopular. Politically, it is a losing strategy to align with this movement, which is a great sign that society is moving in the right direction.

PRAY.

Father God, protect our nation from falling like Israel. Forgive us for the perversion we have allowed into our nation. May we turn to You, oh Lord, and repent for the sins we have committed nationally, and turn to You as our Lord and savior.

ACT.

Boldly speak truth in love by engaging in respectful conversations about these important issues with your community, friends, and family. Share factual information, advocate for policies that align with biblical values, and support organizations that stand for truth and righteousness.
