WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - JULY 29, 2026

In this week's Intersect, read about:

GOP Defectors Sink Trump’s Trans Military Ban

“The U.S. House had a chance this week to write President Trump’s ban on transgender military service into permanent law. Instead, a group of Republicans joined every Democrat to oppose it, and the measure fell by the narrowest of margins. For a party that campaigned hard on restoring common sense to the armed forces, it was a self-inflicted wound.” Read more at Million Voices…

THINK.

  • Two of the four Republicans who sided with Democrats represent districts President Trump lost in 2024, a reminder that re-election math can outweigh a policy a party campaigned on nationally.
  • An executive order only lasts as long as the president who signs it, and a federal appeals court has already ruled against parts of the policy. Without a permanent law behind it, the ban stays exposed to reversal by courts and future administrations alike.
  • Scripture reminds us that God “created man in His own image; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27), a truth this policy is meant to reflect. Believers should keep holding lawmakers accountable to the promises they made on the campaign trail.

PRAY.

Lord, we ask for wisdom and courage for every member of Congress who casts a vote this week. Strengthen the resolve of those who stand for truth about how You created us, and soften the hearts of those who trade that truth for political convenience. Protect our service members, and give our military leaders the clarity to build a force fit for its mission. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

ACT.

Contact your congressional representatives and ask them to support permanent legislation that protects military readiness and reflects the biblical truth about the sexes. Encourage them to hold colleagues accountable when campaign promises go unmet on the House floor. Share this story with your church and community so believers understand what is at stake for our nation’s military.

The Democratic Party’s Leftward Shift Reaches Colorado

“A rising Democratic star in Colorado is drawing national attention for saying the United States needs more immigrants from the ‘Global South’ in elected office to challenge what she called the global world order. The candidate, Melat Kiros, is not a fringe activist shouting from the sidelines. She is the Democratic nominee for a Denver-area congressional seat and the favorite to win it this November.” Read more at Million Voices…

THINK.

  • Kiros unseated a 15-term incumbent in the primary with an endorsement from Sen. Bernie Sanders, part of a wider wave of Democratic Socialist-aligned candidates ousting establishment Democrats in both New York and Colorado.
  • Members of Congress take an oath to the Constitution, not to a candidate’s vision of a “global world order.” A platform built around electing officeholders by national origin rather than shared civic commitment raises real questions about what representation is meant to protect.
  • Scripture teaches that God Himself “determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands” (Acts 17:26) when He made the nations. A worldview that treats national identity and borders as tools of oppression to be dissolved runs directly against that created order.

PRAY.

Father, give discernment to voters weighing the character and convictions of every candidate on their ballot. Raise up leaders who love this country and defend the rule of law, and soften hearts that have grown cynical toward the nation You have blessed. Guard our elections and our institutions, Lord, and let truth prevail over rhetoric. Amen.

ACT.

Learn what candidates in your own district actually believe before casting your vote, not just how they are described in headlines. Support leaders who defend American sovereignty, the rule of law, and the God-given dignity of every citizen. Show up and vote in every race, including the ones that appear already decided.

Congress Let Planned Parenthood Funding Return

“On July 4, 2026, America marked 250 years of independence. On that very same day, a quiet clock ran out in Washington, and taxpayer dollars once again began flowing to the nation’s largest abortion provider. What pro-life Americans had celebrated as a historic victory just one year earlier turned out to carry an expiration date few people noticed.” Read more at Million Voices…

THINK.

  • House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington has already admitted the defunding isn’t a priority in the new budget, even as pro-life members like Rep. Michelle Fischbach push to restore it before November.
  • Congress holds the power of the purse, and reconciliation lets lawmakers restore the defunding with a simple Senate majority, the same process used to pass it the first time. No private business is entitled to taxpayer support, and Congress remains free to withhold it.
  • Scripture leaves no room for comfortable silence on this issue: “Rescue those being led away to death, and restrain those stumbling toward the slaughter” (Proverbs 24:11). Believers are called to courageous action on behalf of the defenseless, not quiet acceptance of a policy failure.

PRAY.

Lord, we lift up the unborn and ask for Your protection over the most vulnerable among us. Give our lawmakers courage to stand for life even when it costs them politically, and expose any effort to profit from the destruction of innocent life. Turn hearts toward mercy and truth, and let this nation once again honor life at every stage. Amen.

ACT.

Call and write your congressional representatives and urge them to permanently end taxpayer funding for abortion providers. Support pregnancy centers and ministries in your community that offer real medical care without taking innocent life. Share accurate information about where your tax dollars go so others can make an informed and conscience-driven decision at the ballot box.

Politeness Is ‘White Supremacy’? Inside the Smithsonian

“A short exchange at a congressional hearing put America’s most famous museum on the defensive this week. Rep. Brandon Gill, a Texas Republican, questioned the director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History about a document that ties basic manners to racism. The clip spread quickly online, and for good reason.” Read more at Million Voices…

THINK.

  • The hearing followed a 162-page White House report accusing the museum of broader “ideological capture,” including bias against white Americans and promotion of transgender activism, suggesting this exchange exposed a pattern rather than an isolated slip.
  • Because the Smithsonian relies on taxpayer funding, Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to hold it accountable for promoting a single ideological viewpoint at public expense rather than presenting history with neutrality.
  • Jesus taught, “You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13–14). Reclaiming institutions like our national museums begins with believers who are willing to show up, ask hard questions, and refuse to stay silent while America’s story is quietly rewritten.

PRAY.

Lord, give discernment to parents, educators, and lawmakers charged with shaping how our children learn history. Expose ideology masquerading as scholarship, and raise up bold voices willing to ask hard questions of powerful institutions. Renew a love of truth and gratitude for this nation in the hearts of the next generation. Amen.

ACT.

Contact your congressional representatives and ask them to demand transparency and accountability from taxpayer-funded institutions like the Smithsonian. Get involved with your local school board to ensure history is taught honestly and without ideological bias. Share this story so others understand what is being taught in America’s most trusted institutions.
