WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - JANUARY 7, 2026
In this week's Intersect, read about:
U.S. Executions Surge Amid Shifting Public Views
"The United States witnessed a dramatic increase in executions in 2025, reaching a 16-year high. This surge, driven by a handful of states, presents a stark contrast to national polls showing public support for the death penalty at its lowest point in five decades. This growing divide is causing an examination of what justice and punishment mean, and what they are meant for." Read more at Million Voices...
THINK.
- The Bible establishes governing authorities to execute justice (Romans 13:4). When the most heinous crimes are committed, capital punishment can be seen as the government fulfilling its God-given duty to punish evil and protect the innocent.
- While public opinion shifts, the principle of justice remains constant. Believers must anchor their views in timeless biblical truths rather than fluctuating cultural trends, upholding a moral standard that honors God's design for a just society.
- A society that fails to administer the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crime risks losing its moral compass. We must ask what true justice requires and how we, as a people, should respond to the darkest acts of human nature.
PRAY.
Lord, I pray for justice to be administered according to Your word. May our civil leaders have the wisdom and strength to carry out the right decisions. Give restoration to souls that do not know You, Jesus, and capture their hearts so that they come to know You as their Lord and Savior.
ACT.
Engage with this issue on a deeper level, informed by facts but guided by your principles. Pray for our leaders, advocate for laws that reflect righteous values, and stand for true justice in a world that desperately needs it.
What’s Ahead for Faith and Freedom in 2026
"As we look ahead to 2026, we see a year filled with immense potential and critical challenges for the Body of Christ. It is not just another year on the calendar; it is a turning point for our nation and our faith. God has placed us here for such a time as this, and we cannot afford to be silent or passive. We must be awake, alert, and ready to stand for truth in the public square." Read more at Million Voices...
THINK.
- Proverbs 29:2 reminds us, "When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan." Our participation in the 2026 midterms is a crucial way to steward our influence and elect leaders who align with biblical values.
- The upcoming Supreme Court rulings on presidential power and biblical counseling are not just legal technicalities; they are battles for the soul of our nation that will directly impact our freedom to live out our faith. The Church must be informed and engaged.
- America’s 250th birthday is a divine opportunity to remind our nation that true liberty comes from God. We must seize this moment to speak life back into our country's soul and call for a return to the moral foundations that made it great. 2026 can be great! But it will require action on your part to make it what it can be.
PRAY.
Father God, I petition heaven to meet earth and establish righteousness and justice. Come rule and reign in our nation, and make Your light shine bright in 2026. May this be a year of just decisions within our highest court, a year of glorifying Your name throughout our nation, and a year of restoring the values that made America great.
ACT.
Commit to being salt and light in 2026. Register to vote, equip yourself with truth to make wise decisions, and encourage your family and friends to support leaders who fear God. Your voice is your vote; use it.
U.S. Military Action Sparks Hope in Venezuela
"The United States has taken a bold and decisive step in the cause of freedom in the Western Hemisphere. In a swift military operation, American forces captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, bringing an end to a reign of terror and corruption. This action, known as Operation Absolute Resolve, signals a pivotal moment for the oppressed people of Venezuela and a stand for justice against tyranny." Read more at Million Voices...
THINK.
- Scripture tells us that "When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers" (Proverbs 21:15). We must recognize that the removal of tyranny is an act of mercy for the oppressed and a restoration of moral order.
- Freedom is a precious gift that must be defended. The liberation of a nation held captive by socialism and corruption is a reminder that God desires liberty for His creation, and we should rejoice with those who are finally tasting freedom.
- The War Powers Resolution (or Act) of 1973 gives certain authority to the executive office to strategically position U.S. military ahead of Congress's approval (or disapproval) of a declaration of war. Wisdom dictates that the president's decision will be good or bad. It's a very tricky situation and one that we will all learn from.
PRAY.
Holy Spirit, give President Trump and his team the wisdom and discernment they need to carry out proper actions on behalf of our nation. We may not understand it all; our leaders may not understand it all, but You do. May our leaders rely solely on You and Your counsel, Jesus.
ACT.
Do not let this moment pass without action. Pray fervently for the stability of Venezuela during this transition, support humanitarian efforts where possible, and advocate for U.S. policies that continue to champion freedom across the Americas.
Tim Walz Exits Race Amid Fraud Scandal Fallout
"Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has officially announced he will not seek re-election this year. This decision comes after months of growing questions about massive fraud scandals in the state. For many Minnesotans, this announcement feels like a long-overdue step toward accountability." Read more at Million Voices...
THINK.
- Integrity is non-negotiable in leadership. As Luke 16:10 warns, "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much." When leaders fail to steward public resources honestly, they disqualify themselves from the privilege of governing.
- Accountability is not just a political concept; it is a biblical mandate. Numbers 32:23 reminds us that "your sin will find you out." We must have the conviction to demand transparency and truth, regardless of political affiliation.
- The Church must not be shocked at any of this. Decades of corruption dwell deep within every corner of America. We need people of courage to step up and expose the crime, and leaders to hold them accountable. Otherwise, exposing it is done in vain. Minnesota is just one of countless examples that will be brought to light; pray for a mindset to process it when you hear it, and a heart to address it through action.
PRAY.
God, give me the mind to comprehend what is happening and what will come. Strengthen my heart to receive Your instruction so that I am not dismayed when I process it. May Your word cover me and Your light surround me. I want to be an agent of change; mold me to be that.
ACT.
Take a stand for integrity in your own state. Demand full transparency from your local officials, support investigations into government waste, and use your vote to elect men and women who fear God and walk in honesty.
