WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - AUGUST 5, 2026

In this week's Intersect, read about:

NJ's Voter Rolls Scandal Is a Midterm Warning

"New Jersey is at the center of a growing election integrity firestorm, and it could not come at a more critical time. With the midterms just months away, a stunning admission from Governor Mikie Sherrill has confirmed what conservatives have warned for years: noncitizens are getting onto voter rolls, and some of them are casting ballots." Read more at Million Voices…

THINK.

  • New Jersey's admission fits a wider pattern heading into the midterms, and it is giving the Trump administration fresh momentum as it presses Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship for federal voter registration nationwide.
  • The Constitution rests on the simple principle that one citizen equals one vote. When thousands of ineligible names sit on the rolls for years before the public is told, that safeguard breaks down no matter which party controls the statehouse.
  • Proverbs 21:15 reminds us that when justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers. An honest ballot box is not a partisan preference; it is a matter of basic justice that Scripture takes seriously.

PRAY.

Lord, we ask for wisdom for the officials responsible for our voter rolls, and for courage to bring every irregularity into the light. Guard the integrity of every election, and let no vote be cast that was never meant to be cast. Give our leaders discernment as they debate election security, and remind us that true justice honors You above any party. Amen.

ACT.

Contact your state and federal representatives and ask them to support proof-of-citizenship requirements for voter registration. Stay informed on election integrity efforts in your own state, and encourage your church and community to treat honest elections as a matter worth watching closely, not only during election season.

Democratic Socialists Want No Senate, No Court, No President

"The Democratic Socialists of America have unveiled a new political platform. It calls for eliminating the U.S. Senate entirely. It also seeks to replace the presidency and the Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by, and answerable to, Congress alone." Read more at Million Voices…

THINK.

  • DSA-aligned candidates have already won primaries and taken seats in Congress and statehouses, which is exactly why this platform deserves serious attention rather than dismissal as a fringe idea from the political margins.
  • Abolishing the Senate would require a constitutional amendment passed by two-thirds of Congress and ratified by three-fourths of the states, a high bar by design that reflects the Founders' intent to slow momentary passions rather than let one faction rule unchecked.
  • Long before the Constitution divided power three ways, Moses did something similar. Deuteronomy 1:15 describes how he appointed leaders over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens rather than ruling the nation alone, a pattern that shows God's people have always been better served by shared authority than by power concentrated in one man or one body.

PRAY.

Father, we thank You for the wisdom of the Founders who divided power to protect us from tyranny. Guard the Senate, the courts, and the presidency from those who would tear down the checks You allowed our nation to build. Give believers the discernment to separate fact from rhetoric, and raise up leaders who will defend the Constitution rather than dismantle it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

ACT.

Take time to read this platform for yourself rather than relying on secondhand summaries, and share what you learn with your pastor, your neighbors, and your elected officials. Contact your representatives and let them know you expect them to defend the separation of powers our Constitution was built on.

Pro-Life Dad Vindicated After Biden's Injustice

"A Tennessee father of 11 has finally won justice after the Biden administration sent armed FBI agents to arrest him for praying outside an abortion clinic. Paul Vaughn reached a seven-figure settlement with the federal government this week, closing out a years-long ordeal that began with a predawn raid on his family's home." Read more at Million Voices…

THINK.

  • Vaughn's case fits a documented pattern: roughly 97 percent of all FACE Act prosecutions since the law's creation in 1994 have targeted pro-life advocates, even though the statute was written to protect churches and pregnancy centers equally.
  • The Trump DOJ's decision to issue new guidance protecting peaceful pro-life prayer, and to remove prosecutors tied to the original cases, affirms that the First Amendment protects religious expression outside a sanctuary's walls, not only inside them.
  • Psalm 34:17 promises that the righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. Vaughn's family walked through years of fear before that deliverance came, but it came.

PRAY.

Lord, we thank You for hearing the cries of Paul Vaughn's family through years of fear and uncertainty. Continue to heal the wounds left by that predawn raid, and comfort every child who witnessed a parent taken away for praying. Strengthen those who still stand outside abortion clinics in peaceful witness, and let this settlement be a signal that prayer will never be treated as a crime in this nation. Amen.

ACT.

Pray for pro-life advocates who still face legal risk simply for peaceful prayer and protest, and support legal organizations that defend religious liberty in court. Share Paul Vaughn's story with your community so believers understand that standing for the unborn can carry a real cost, and that God is faithful through it.

City Puts Price Tag on Preacher's Free Speech

"A Minnesota street preacher is fighting back after his city forced him to pay for a right the Constitution already guarantees him for free. Bryan Conwell, a Christian pro-life advocate, has filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Benson over what his attorneys call an unconstitutional "price tag" on free speech. The case is a clear example of local government overreach colliding with basic First Amendment protections." Read more at Million Voices…

THINK.

  • This lawsuit fits a national pattern of cities using permits and fees to control who may speak in public spaces, a trend Million Voices has tracked before in cases such as a Houston pastor's fight over open-air preaching.
  • The First Amendment does not come with a price tag. Requiring a citizen to buy a commercial vendor's license before holding a sign turns a constitutional right into a government-issued privilege that officials can price out of reach.
  • A single city council member facilitating the farmers market, not a state legislature or a court, was the one who decided a silent preacher needed a permit to hold a sign. That is how easily an unelected or low-visibility local official can end up deciding who gets to exercise a constitutional right in their own community.

PRAY.

Father, we lift up Bryan Conwell and every believer who faces pressure simply for speaking Your truth in public. Give him boldness as his case moves through federal court, and give the judge assigned to it wisdom to see this dispute clearly. Protect street preachers, sign-holders, and every quiet witness from officials who would rather silence them than hear them. Amen.

ACT.

Pay attention to how your own city council treats public speech, permits, and fees, and show up when religious liberty is on the agenda. Support legal organizations that take on these cases, and pray for believers like Bryan Conwell who choose to keep speaking even when the cost is real.
