WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - AUGUST 13, 2025

In this week's Intersect, read about:

Supreme Court Considers Case That Could Overturn Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

In a move few predicted, the U.S. Supreme Court is considering whether to hear a case directly asking them to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. read more at Million Voices

THINK.

  • The Supreme Court is going to consider a case that could overturn the Obergefell decision which legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, reversing a decision that has harmed the institution of marriage for 10 years.
  • The Obergefell decision ignored centuries of legal precedent. The Supreme Court decided to read the Fourteenth Amendment to mean that “liberty” meant sodomy, when there was no such indication at all. In fact, there was not a single mention of “marriage” within the debates on the Fourteenth Amendment.
  • The jurisdiction of marriage belongs with the states, historically. That is where it should be left again, until we can decide as a nation if we want the Constitution to expressly recognize and protect the institution that God designed, not man.

PRAY.

Lord, I ask that You engage the hearts of those justices who will be considering the acceptance of this case before them. Holy Spirit, stir in them the courage to take the case and then to reverse the decision that has harmed the very covenant that You put together. “What God has put together, let no man separate.”

ACT.

While nothing can be done to petition the Supreme Court, what you can do is call your state legislator and ask them to place protections on marriage as much as your state constitution allows, and to ban same-sex couples from adopting.

Oregon Mother Wins Right to Adopt Without Compromising Faith

In a major win for religious freedom, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit recently ruled that an Oregon mother, Jessica Bates, may begin the process of adopting children from the foster care system—without being forced to abandon her religious beliefs about gender and sexuality. read more at Million Voices

THINK.

  • Jessica Bates was able to fight a corrupt system whose intention the last two decades has been to divide families and beat them without compromising her values and principles. Her efforts serve as an example that we can all take comfort in: nothing will change if you do not take a stand.
  • While many federal courts refuse to do the right thing, there are those who do. This is why it is important to elect a president who will appoint the right judges to the courts, those who will uphold justice.
  • Consider how difficult it is for so many couples who would love to adopt or foster but cannot because corrupt people are in charge who do not want good people to be good parents. Rather, they are handing children over to people who have evil intentions. This must be changed.

PRAY.

Father God, I pray for more victories like Jessica’s. I ask for Your mercy on those who are struggling in similar situations and who wish to be parents. Give them the words to say in court, just as You told the disciples in Mark 13:11.

ACT.

If you know anyone who is in a similar situation as Jessica has just gone through, encourage them to fight on. Empower them to take a stand if they are not already. You can also reach out to your state representative and ask them to review the laws that have allowed this to happen in the first place. Judges can only enforce the laws that are on the books. Let’s pass good laws!

Virginia High School Accused of Arranging Abortions Without Parental Consent

Troubling news is coming out of Fairfax County, Virginia, where a report brought to the attention of ABC 7 News claims that two female students, both minors, say school staff arranged and financed abortions without notifying their parents. read more at Million Voices

THINK.

  • Even though laws in Virginia are in place to prevent this from happening, it did not prevent bad people from disobeying. Those bad people are in the schools, too, which begs the question: who is in our school system in my area that could be doing similar heinous acts?
  • 50 years of Roe v. Wade led to at least two generations of people, women especially, to believe that because abortion is legal, it must be moral. This is because the law is a teacher. If good laws are passed, they will curb behavior and direct people toward virtue.
  • As a broader discussion, ask yourself: what is happening in my school that I should be aware of? It does not have to be undisclosed abortion, often times school boards admit in open what they are doing at their meetings. The problem is that people do not show up to know about it. Show up to your local school board. You might be surprised what you learn.

PRAY.

Jesus, I pray that the young women who suffered from these horrible situations are restored and shown love and mercy. I pray for those who broke the law and encouraged such immoral actions to be brought to justice. Empower me to take a stand and rise up against the things that are not aligned with your word. Protect the babies who are threatened today while in the womb. Be with them, Holy Spirit.

ACT.

Two things you can do. Show up to your school board and learn what they are doing, promoting, and encouraging. When you learn of something you do not like, you are encouraged, and have the right to petition your school board to do the right thing. If they do not listen, run against them!

Trump Pushes for Census to Exclude Illegal Immigrants

Amid national debates over redistricting continue, former President Donald Trump recently stated that the next U.S. census should not include individuals who are in the country illegally. Trump called this plan a move toward a “highly accurate” count. read more at Million Voices

THINK.

  • Illegal aliens who are currently in America vote in Democrat states in some cases but remain “undocumented.” Democrats have gained political power from this over the years and Republicans are finally pushing back.
  • Trump directs the Department of Commerce to discount illegal immigrants by gaining a “highly accurate” count of residents who have documentation. If this happens, blue states’ power will diminish. By counting illegal aliens and allowing them to vote, we will be giving up our way of life in America.
  • If we are to use scripture to craft policy around immigration, we should look to Leviticus 24:22 as our guiding source: "You shall have the same rule for the sojourner and for the native, for I am the Lord your God." Assimilation is a biblical principle and has been practiced by every nation throughout the history of the world.

PRAY.

Lord, we pray for justice over our people and our land, that we would receive grace in our land and that the right people would be counted among us, so that we can preserve and continue the beautiful nation that You have blessed us with.

ACT.

Call your congressional representative and let them know you support President Trump’s effort to exclude the wrong people from the census and only include those who are in America legally.
