In early December Dr. Carson, U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and former National Honorary Chairman of My Faith Votes announced a new initiative within HUD that should excite the community of faith.
To help HUD-assisted households become self-sufficient Dr. Carson has announced a pilot program of EnVision Centers.
EnVision Centers will be an incubator for teaching HUD-assisted households valuable skills and knowledge to equip them to be self-sufficient and successful.
“The EnVision Centers demonstration is premised on the notion that financial support alone is insufficient to solve the problem of poverty” according to HUD.gov/EnVisionCenters.
The Centers will have four key pillars of self-sufficiency:
Character and Leadership
Educational Advancement
Economic Empowerment
Health and Wellness
The HUD Public Affairs office says the EnVision Centers will operate “through results-driven partnerships with federal agencies, state and local governments, non-profits, faith-based organizations, corporations, public housing authorities, and housing finance agencies, EnVision Centers will leverage public-private resources for maximum community impact.
This is the key element of the initiative that should encourage people of faith.
Non-profits and faith-based organizations, corporations – in essence, the community, have the opportunity to step up to the plate and help those in HUD-assisted households become self-sufficient.
The pilot program will launch ten EnVision Centers across the nation along with a mobile app to help connect HUD-assisted individuals to local resources in the EnVision Center Network.
The Envision Centers will be located where there are high concentrations of low-income and public housing. The exact location of the first ten centers is not immediately known at this time.
Please be in prayer for Dr. Carson and the staff working under his leadership on the EnVision Center pilot program.
Pray for God to connect strong community faith-based partners to EnVision Centers. Pray for Dr. Carson and his team to have wisdom as they begin to implement this incredible vision that allows the community to partner with the government to bring aid to those in poverty and provide a path for self-sufficiency.
