My Faith Votes | Christ and His resurrection changes everything.

Article

Christ and His resurrection changes everything.

We live in a world of hyperbole, especially in politics. Here’s a hot example. Recently, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres dramatically declared that we have moved from global warming to an era of “global boiling.” I guess we better watch where we step!

Even President Trump wrote about, in his book The Art of the Deal, his use of “truthful hyperbole” to rally people around an important point.

We become desensitized to hyperbolic assurances, even when they hold elements of truth. Extremes in promises, whether boasting "the best ever" or claiming "the worst in history," tend to trigger our skepticism.

So, when you hear the phrase, “This changes everything,” you may be a little slow to accept it. In most cases, it doesn’t. Even in Ecclesiastes, we read that there is nothing new under the sun.

But here’s a truth you can count on: Christ and His resurrection changes everything!

Consider the Old Testament. The children of God are running amok. The Old Testament books are full of stories about how, from the beginning of time, people have fallen short of God’s expectations.

The phrase “he did evil in the eyes of the Lord” is repeated over and over.

And the reality is, humans didn’t change once we flipped the page to the New Testament. People are still sinning. They’re still acting out of selfish ambition, pursuing privilege, power, wealth, and prestige.

Even Peter, a close apostle of Christ, succumbs and denies Christ three times. As Romans 3:23 reveals to us, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Yet, even still, Christ and his resurrection changes everything.

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ – who is the son of God, who lived a perfect life, and who died at the hand of sinful man – is a gift of pure GRACE. It’s a grace we don’t deserve. It’s a grace we don’t earn through good words, and it’s a grace we don’t forfeit from our failures.

When you accept the grace Jesus offers, you’re given a new identity. To use a sports analogy, you’re drafted onto a new championship team. You’ve been given a new jersey.

This changes everything!

Grace broke through. Grace came down and it upended our striving to climb up to God.

Christ’s grace is the greatest love story ever told. And this changes everything.

So, let’s tell that story. Boldly.

Don’t sit on the bench and watch others on the field. Wear your jersey proudly and get out there! Tell people about this act of love that changed your life. Live boldly for truth. Put faith into action and influence the world around you. For the sake of grace in others.

This is not hyperbole.

Jesus changes everything. May He change us to be faithful and bold in how we live for him today.
